Marshal Seufert has helped launch and develop CEO since its inception. He has personally taught students at most of our centers, directed centers, developed programs, trained teachers, and directed the organization. He has previously worked for other adult education organizations, worked in non–profit development, grant writing, and campaign work. In addition to his volunteer work as a founder and board member for CEO, he works as a criminal defense attorney in Denver for the Office of the State Public Defender. Marshal has been a Colorado resident since 1985.

Dr. Gilbert Gardner, Director

2003-Present
Director – Regis University

Gil Gardner, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Regis University and was the Director of the Criminal Justice Program from 1987–2004. He has taught in and administered prison college programs since 1976. In 1988 he founded the Regis University PATH Program, offering college degree programs in twenty Colorado facilities, including state prisons, county jails, therapeutic communities and community corrections. In 2001 he founded the Naropa University Prison College Program offering college classes to prisoners in ten state correctional facilities. During 2004, he worked with the Colorado Department of Corrections to establish college programs in sixteen prisons offered through four Colorado colleges, and presently assists in this effort. Dr. Gardner has also done research in and published articles on prisons and prison history.
